Emergency Water Shut-Off

In case of a sprinkler emergency, it is essential to know how to shut off the water to prevent further damage. Here are the steps to follow:

1. Locate the City Water Meter: The water meter is usually located close to the front yard street curb. Look for a green rectangular box within 5 feet of the water meter.

2. Identify Sprinkler Shut-Off Valve: Next to the water meter, you will find the sprinkler shut-off valve. If one of the handles is rusted or broken, try the other handle. Only one handle is required to shut off the water.

3. Shut Off The Water: Pop open the green lid and turn either one of the handles 90 degrees perpendicular to the body of the valve. If the handles are corroded or difficult to turn, try using channel locks or a meter key to turn the valve.

If you cannot find the sprinkler shut-off valve, try drawing an imaginary line from the water meter to the outdoor water faucet. There's a good chance that the house water line runs in this direction, and the sprinkler cut-off valve is likely tied in close to this line. If you still cannot find the valve, you may need to open the water meter and turn off the city water meter, which will also cut off the house water.
