Portage Brewing

Welcome to Portage Brewing Company, a destination brewery and taproom nestled just inside Chippewa National Forest, off the banks of Leech Lake, in the small community of Walker. Our story is one filled with inspiring projects, collaborations, tragedy, and rebirth. In 2017, we opened our doors within Walker's original hospital with a few dollars to operate with, and a mission to keep our roots of homebrewing alive, brewing anything that peaked our curiosity. To date, we've brewed 240 different beers, ranging from spontaneous sour beer, to oak fermented lagers, to everything in between.

In 2019, we experienced a catastrophic fire that destroyed our brewery, taking us to the very edge of needing to quit. Just a day after the fire hit, we were pulled from an impossible situation by hundreds of fellow brewers, neighbors, and customers, to a place where we were able to rebuild the brewery you see today. Today, we operate a 10BBL brewhouse, and a small wood cellar we fill and clear annually. Next time you're considering travel for a beer, we hope you'll come North and see us.

Our Services

At Portage Brewing Company, we offer a variety of services to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. Our taproom is open seven days a week, offering an extensive selection of our unique beers and delicious food options. Whether you're looking for a place to relax with friends, or a spot to grab a quick bite and a beer, we've got you covered.

In addition to our taproom, we also offer private events. Whether you're planning a wedding, a corporate event, or just a big party, we can help make it a memorable one. With our knowledgeable staff and unique space, we can work with you to create an event that suits your needs and exceeds your expectations.

We also offer a beer locator service, where you can find our beers in cans and on draft at over 400 locations across Minnesota and North Dakota. So, even if you can't make it to our taproom, you can still enjoy our beers at a location near you.

Our Sauna Water, a botanical sparkling water, is another unique offering. With flavors like Rose Petal and Cucumber Mint, Sauna Water is the perfect choice for those looking for a non-alcoholic beverage option.
