Texas Lions Eyeglass Education

The Texas Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center (TLERC) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 foundation of the Lions of Texas, dedicated to the mission of providing used eyeglasses to Lions and other group missions providing vision screening and assistance in developing countries. With the support of the Lions Clubs International Foundation, TLERC recycles eyeglasses for use in Texas, the United States, and around the world.

Our organization is led by a board of directors composed of dedicated Lions members from various districts in Texas. These individuals, along with our volunteers, work tirelessly to ensure that the mission of TLERC is fulfilled. We are a group of passionate individuals who believe in the importance of vision and the impact it has on one's quality of life.

Our Services

TLERC receives, processes, and distributes used eyeglasses worldwide. We collect used eyeglasses from various sources, including optometrists, ophthalmologists, and individuals who wish to donate their old glasses. These glasses are then sorted, cleaned, and categorized based on their prescription. Once processed, they are distributed to those in need, both domestically and internationally.

In addition to recycling eyeglasses, TLERC also provides brand-new eyeglasses for children who cannot afford vision correction. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to see clearly and reach their full potential. By providing these glasses, we are helping to ensure that our future generations have the best possible start in life.

TLERC History

The Texas Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center was established in the late 1980s by a core of Midland Lions who were inspired by the idea of recycling eyeglasses. This idea was sparked by Helen Keller, who asked the Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." Since then, TLERC has grown into a successful organization, with thousands of pairs of eyeglasses being processed and distributed each year.

Golf Tournament

Each year, TLERC hosts a golf tournament to raise funds for our organization. This event brings together Lions members, community supporters, and local businesses for a day of fun and camaraderie. The proceeds from the tournament help us continue our mission of providing vision assistance to those in need.
