Sweet Returns in Every Bite

Our Story

The Bankery & Skowhegan Fleuriste began with a dream. A dream fueled by the charm of a historic building and a shared passion for bringing delicious food and beautiful blooms to the town of Skowhegan. Our story started in 2008 when Michael Hunt, a local artist with a strong background in custom cake decorating, and Matt DuBois, a culinary school graduate with a classical pastry arts training, joined forces. Together, they saw the potential in a beautifully preserved circa 1864 bank building in the heart of Skowhegan's historic downtown. With the unwavering support of their families, who brought expertise in hospitality, restaurateur experiences, and building construction, they embarked on a journey to transform the old bank into a vibrant and welcoming space while preserving its original character.

Their vision was clear: to create a bakery unlike any other, one that offered freshly baked goods made from scratch using the highest quality ingredients. They wanted to provide a culinary experience that was both delightful and comforting, a place where people could gather, relax, and indulge their senses. In the fall of 2008, The Bankery opened its doors to the community, quickly gaining a reputation for its delectable pastries, custom cakes, and savory offerings. The warm ambiance and the aroma of freshly baked bread quickly made it a beloved local spot.

A Flourishing Partnership

The success of The Bankery wasn't solely due to its culinary delights; it was also a testament to the partnership between Michael and Matt. Their complementary skills and shared vision created a unique synergy that propelled the business forward. Michael's artistic flair and meticulous attention to detail shone through in his custom cake creations, each one a masterpiece that captured the essence of the occasion. Matt, with his culinary training and passion for flavor, ensured that every pastry, every loaf of bread, and every savory dish was crafted with precision and care.

But their journey didn't end there. Recognizing the need for a complementary service that would further enhance their offerings, they ventured into the world of floristry. In 2010, Skowhegan Fleuriste was born. Seeking to provide a source of fresh, vibrant blooms alongside their baked goods, the partners transformed a space adjacent to The Bankery into a charming florist shop.

Fresh Scents and Sweet Returns

Skowhegan Fleuriste quickly became a beacon of beauty in the heart of Skowhegan. With its stunning arrangements and an array of fresh flowers bursting with color and fragrance, it offered something truly special.

Today, The Bankery & Skowhegan Fleuriste stands as a testament to the power of shared dreams, hard work, and a dedication to providing exceptional experiences. Their commitment to quality ingredients, hand-crafted artistry, and personalized service has earned them a loyal following in Skowhegan and beyond. Stepping into their establishment is like stepping into a world where fresh scents mingle with the sweetness of freshly baked goods, creating a truly unforgettable experience.
