Our journey began in 1965 when Bob and Ann Osterhaus purchased Hinckley Drug Store, and since then, we've been dedicated to improving our community's health care through fast and personalized service. We're more than just a pharmacy; we're your family's healthcare specialists.

Our History

Our story started in October 1965 when Bob and Ann Osterhaus took over Hinckley Drug Store. The store had just one full-time employee and two part-time employees. The Hinckley family had been running their drug store at 124 S. Main Street since 1903. In 1969, the Osterhaus' purchased Hanchar Pharmacy, located next door to Hinckley, expanding the store's floor space. This expansion was followed by another in 1972, when they bought Schultz Bros 5 & Dime, doubling the floor space once again.

In the years that followed, our practice continued to grow, including offering home medical equipment services and unit dose services to area nursing facilities. Matt and Marilyn Osterhaus joined the practice in 1983, bringing fresh ideas and a commitment to excellence.

In 1991, we embarked on a new journey, focusing on Pharmaceutical Care services at Osterhaus Pharmacy, participating in The Applied Pharmaceutical Care Project with the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. This led to a significant transformation in our practice model, shifting towards pharmaceutical care in 1995 with the advent of the Iowa Center for Pharmaceutical Care.

Our commitment to education and community growth led us to become a teaching site for PharmD candidates from the University of Iowa in 1995. In 1997, we partnered with Reugnitz Pharmacy and the University of Iowa to offer a post-graduate residency program, the first community-based residency in Iowa.

In 2000, we underwent an extensive remodeling project, expanding our pharmacy department and care-based service area to better meet the needs of our growing community. Today, we're proud to offer a wide range of services, including after-hours service, COVID-19 testing, drive-up, curbside pick-up, delivery, and mail health screenings.

Services

We offer a variety of services designed to cater to your health needs. Our services include after-hours service, COVID-19 testing, drive-up, curbside pick-up, delivery, and mail health screenings. We also provide hospice services, immunizations, long-term care, medication adherence, medication synchronization, medication therapy management, Medicare Part D reviews, multi-dose pill packaging, patient programs, pharmacy travel vaccinations, and patient care services.

In addition to these services, we also offer medical equipment, including ambulatory aids, bath and toilet aids, diabetic shoes, compression stockings, respiratory services, braces, and supports. Our Pink Wardrobe section is dedicated to supporting women who have survived or are fighting breast cancer and their supporters, offering a wide range of mastectomy products and a private fitting area with one of our certified pharmacist-fitters.
