Since 1932, we have been Hondo's Downtown Hometown Restaurant, serving up delicious Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine to locals and visitors alike. Our restaurant is centrally located in the heart of Downtown Hondo, right across the street from City Hall, US Post Office, and the Medina County Courthouse. We're a family-owned business, and our dedication to quality and tradition has earned us a reputation for serving some of the best tasting Mexican and Tex-Mex food in the region.

Our History

Our story begins in 1932 when Abel Dominguez opened the original Azteca Cafe in Downtown Hondo. The cafe served many military personnel training at the Hondo Airfield and quickly became a favorite among locals. Over the years, our restaurant has undergone changes, but our commitment to traditional Mexican cuisine has remained unwavering. In the 1990s, Abel's son, Arturo, rebuilt Azteca Cafe into El Restaurante Azteca, expanding our menu and offerings to cater to a wider audience.
