Our Mission

The Lawrence County Solid Waste Management District was established in 1991 with a vision to preserve and enhance our environment, natural resources, and public health through responsible solid waste management. We achieve this by offering residents various programs and resources to promote reuse, reduction, and recycling.

Our History

From humble beginnings in 1991, the District has grown to become a leading force in waste management in Lawrence County. We opened the Transfer Station in 1994 and the Recycling Center in 1996. In 1997, we partnered with the City of Bedford to implement the popular Curbside Recycling program. Today, we manage multiple facilities and programs, including collection stations, a transfer station, a composting facility, and a refrigerant facility.

Our dedicated team offers a diverse range of services to enhance our community's waste reduction and recycling efforts. These services include:

• Recycling Programs: Curbside collection, recycling centers, and drop-off points for various materials like paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, and metal.
• Composting & Reuse: Programs to collect and recycle cooking oil, electronics, and other materials.
• Hazardous Waste Management: Responsible collection and disposal of household hazardous waste.
• Education & Outreach: Workshops and educational materials to inform residents about sustainable waste management practices.
