Teaching each learner step-by-step, one person at a time.
Our Mission
Each One Teach One (EOTO) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering adult learners in San Antonio and surrounding areas by providing free, personalized tutoring in foundational skills such as GED preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), and basic reading, writing, and math. We believe in the power of one-on-one learning and fostering a supportive environment where individuals can reach their educational and personal goals.
Our Vision
Our vision is to create a community where functionally illiterate adults have the opportunity to achieve their full potential and reach their educational and personal goals. We strive to break the cycle of poverty and empower individuals to become active members of their communities.
Our Story
EOTO's journey began in 2004 when two individuals witnessed the struggles of an older gentleman grappling with reading his tax forms. Recognizing the broader need for literacy support, they began offering free tutoring to the community. This act of compassion eventually blossomed into the formal establishment of EOTO as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The Challenge
Across the nation, over 36 million adults struggle with basic literacy skills, with Texas alone having over 3.8 million individuals without a high school diploma. Sadly, this issue often goes unaddressed due to long waitlists for existing programs. Locally, one in four San Antonio adults reads below the fifth-grade level, highlighting the significant local impact of this crisis.
Our Approach
EOTO utilizes a personalized and empowering approach to adult education. We tailor our tutoring programs to meet the individual needs of each student, utilizing a combination of one-on-one and small-group learning models. Our supportive tutors are passionate about empowering adult learners and creating a safe and welcoming environment for personal growth.
