Dr. Serra's journey in medicine began at a young age, inspired by his father, a retired general surgeon. Witnessing his father's impact on patients and his unwavering commitment to patient care ignited a spark within him, leaving him with an early fascination for the medical field. His commitment to excellence was evident from the start, graduating as valedictorian of his high school class in Sumter County. He went on to pursue his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida in Gainesville, demonstrating exceptional academic prowess while simultaneously exploring his interest in plastic surgery.

Dr. Serra's dedication to academic excellence continued during his medical education at the University of Florida. He participated in the prestigious Junior Honors Medical Program, an accelerated 7-year program allowing him to complete both his bachelor of science and medical degrees. It was during this time that he solidified his passion for plastic surgery, completing externships with Dr. Hal Bingham, the Chief of Plastic Surgery at UF. This experience provided Dr. Serra with invaluable insights into the transformative power of plastic surgery, encompassing everything from subtle cosmetic enhancements to complex reconstructive procedures.

Following his medical education, Dr. Serra embarked on a rigorous six-year plastic surgery residency at The Ohio State University under the tutelage of Dr. Robert Ruberg, the Chief of Plastic Surgery. This renowned program provided him with a comprehensive foundation in all aspects of plastic surgery, encompassing both reconstructive and aesthetic techniques.
