We didn't set out to start a business, but life had other plans. It all began with Mike's passion for working on anything with an engine since his teenage years. He worked as an apprentice at a local four-wheel drive shop in high school and then served in the Army for 8 years as a communication specialist. After his service, he returned to his love for cars, working for several dealerships including Chevy and Kia. However, his journey took a different turn when he left the mechanic life to become a welder for the boilermakers union in 2009. It was during this time that Mike would spend his evenings and weekends working on cars at his father-in-law's used car lot, keeping his skills sharp and helping out the family.

A Time of Need and a New Beginning

In 2015, Mike's family faced two major challenges. Their son was diagnosed with sensory processing disorder, requiring several therapy sessions each week, and their newborn daughter had several medical needs. The medical bills were piling up, and the family was struggling to keep up. It was then that Mike started doing mechanic work in the evenings and on weekends for friends and family to make extra money to cover the medical expenses. Word of his honest and quality work spread quickly, and soon, the backyard was full of cars waiting to be worked on. The family's need for financial support turned into a business opportunity, and Attkisson Automotive was born.

Growth and Expansion: A Commitment to Service

As the business grew, Mike and his wife Christy decided to take the leap and start a small shop. Christy used her savings to help set up the business, and Mike left his full-time job to focus on the garage. It wasn't long before the phone was constantly ringing, and Mike couldn't handle the volume of work alone. Christy then made the decision to leave her job and manage the "office, " which was initially a desk in the back corner of the shop. The business continued to thrive, and within a year, they outgrew their first shop. In November 2018, they moved to their current location and even hired another mechanic to help with the workload. Today, Attkisson Automotive is a testament to the family's resilience and commitment to providing expert and honest service to their community.
