Sherwood Forest Summer Camp

Sherwood Forest Summer Camp is a unique medieval-themed camp located in the heart of Texas, 35 miles east of Austin, in the charming town of McDade. Our mission is to deliver a week of profoundly positive experiences to campers that they will fondly recall for the rest of their lives. We strive to create a lifetime supply of joyful childhood memories, new friendships that stand the test of time, and experiences that may ignite a passion for crafts and skills that are not readily available elsewhere.

Our camp is a four-week summer program that offers a variety of activities designed to immerse campers in the medieval era. We provide a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where campers can learn and grow physically, emotionally, and socially. Our camp is fully licensed with the State of Texas and has between 140-160 campers per week, aged between 8-16 years old. Sessions run for one week, and campers can sign up for multiple weeks, with discounts available.

Medieval Sleep-away Camp

Our camp offers four week-long sessions in June-July, where campers can participate in a range of activities such as blacksmithing, swordplay, archery, leatherworking, chivalry, theater, horse riding, and axe throwing. These activities are designed to provide campers with a unique and unforgettable experience that they cannot find elsewhere. Our experienced staff members ensure that all activities are safe, age-appropriate, and tailored to meet the needs of each individual camper.

Our medieval sleep-away camp is not just about learning new skills; it's also about building new friendships and creating a sense of belonging. Our campers come from all walks of life, and we pride ourselves on creating an inclusive environment where every child feels welcome and valued. We have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying and discrimination of any kind, and we work hard to ensure that every camper feels safe and supported.

Medieval Grown-Up Camp

For those who are young at heart, we offer a three-day weekend Medieval Grown-Up Camp. This is an immersive medieval experience where adults can learn valuable life skills such as swordplay, archery, blacksmithing, and leatherworking. Our grown-up camp provides a unique opportunity for adults to step back in time and experience life in the medieval era.

Year-Round Staff

Our year-round staff is dedicated to providing an unforgettable camp experience. Our camp director, Teach Minchew, has 16 years of classroom experience teaching all levels of science and has been a part of the renaissance festival community for over a decade. Our administration team, counselors, counselors in training, healthcare team members, masters, meal service team members, operations team members, and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that every camper has a safe, enjoyable, and memorable camp experience.
