Santa Maria Vineyard & Winery

Santa Maria Winery is a family-owned and operated business located in the heart of Carroll, Iowa. Our story began over 30 years ago when John and Rose Guinan lived in Omaha, NE. John's interest in winemaking led to an at-home hobby that eventually turned into a full-fledged business venture. With most of their six children grown and out of the house, the Guinans moved to Carroll, IA, near Rose's hometown, and found the perfect land for their vineyard in Willey. The vineyard is conveniently located next to St. Mary's Church, just a mile from where Rose grew up.

In 2005, John decided to turn his hobby into a business, much to Rose's delight, as it would free her kitchen from wine splatters. They started making wines in a machine shed, which produced great wines, such as Swan Lake White, from their humble beginnings. In 2008, John and Rose saw the potential in the old Wittrock auto dealership in Carroll, and after renovating it with the help of local builders and artisans, they transformed it into a beautiful winery.

Our Services

At Santa Maria Winery, we pride ourselves on offering over 30 different wines, catering to every palate. Our wines range from dry to sweet, including big, bold reds and light, fruity whites. We invite everyone to visit us and hear about our story firsthand, including the miraculous way we found the exact location of the vineyard.

Apart from wine-tasting, we offer several other services. Our event center is the perfect venue for wedding receptions, corporate meetings, bridal/baby showers, family reunions, graduation parties, and more. We can accommodate groups of all sizes, and our experienced staff will ensure that your event runs smoothly.

We also offer on-site and online shipping, so you can enjoy our wines from the comfort of your home. Our wines are also available for purchase at local retailers. We regularly update our recipes section with new recipes that pair well with our wines, so be sure to check it out.

If you're in a hurry, we now offer To-Go pizza that you can order by calling our winery. We're open on Wednesdays from 5 pm to 9 pm, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 am to 10 pm, and Saturdays from 11 am to 10 pm.

Our Wines

We offer a wide variety of wines, including red, white, fruit, and dry wines. One of our newest additions is C'est la vie, a dry white wine made from our locally grown Brianna grapes. This wine isinviting, playful, carefree, and relaxed, making it perfect for any occasion. Its waves of fresh, ripe pineapple, white pear flavor, and delicate aromatics make it a favorite among white wine lovers.
