Transforming Spaces, Enhancing Lives

Grenadier Pottery, located in the heart of the Berkshire Hills, is more than just a place where beautiful stoneware is created; it's an immersive experience where art, nature, and craftsmanship come together. Our story began when the founder, Ellen, moved to the Berkshire Hills, marking the start of a new chapter in her journey as a potter. In her studio, she produces a unique line of stoneware that incorporates her impressions from the natural world into elegant bowls, plates, sushi platters, and more. Each piece is a testament to her craftsmanship, made with its own leaf or plant, showcasing the beauty of nature in every detail.

The Art of Pottery

Ellen's process involves layering slips and glazes to achieve a depth of surface quality that is unparalleled. She mixes natural oxides and glazes by hand at the studio, using copper, cobalt, and iron to achieve colors found in nature. Her recent explorations have led to the development of new techniques and ideas, which can be seen in the "Berkshire Whiteware" and "Salt Glazed" collections. With over 30 years of experience in making tableware and custom tiles and murals, Ellen's work is not just functional but also a form of art that adds beauty and elegance to any setting.

A Legacy of Craftsmanship

Ellen Grenadier has been making tableware and custom tiles and murals for over 30 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Connecticut College and has studied salt glazing under a grant from the Tiffany Foundation. She was a co-founding member of Clay Dragon Studios, a clay cooperative in Cambridge, MA, and has been the head of the Ceramics Department at IS 183, Art School of the Berkshires for twelve years. Her work has been shown throughout the United States, and she has participated in various retail shows, including Craftboston, the ACC Wintermarket, the Philadelphia Craft Show, the Minnesota Pottery Tour, the Asparagus Valley Pottery Tour, the Hilltown 6 Pottery Tour, and the Berkshire Pottery Tour.
