Who We Are
The Southeastern Indiana Recycling District (SEIRD) is a multi-county cooperative located in southeastern Indiana. We exist to promote and practice good environmental stewardship in the communities we serve. Our service area includes Franklin, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, and Switzerland Counties. We operate eight recycling centers and seven reuse stores throughout the region.
Our Mission
Our mission is to preserve and enhance the environment, natural resources, and public health and safety through responsible waste management practices. We strive to achieve this by:
- Encouraging and facilitating recycling.
- Promoting the reuse of usable items.
- Reducing the amount of waste disposed of in landfills.
What We Do
SEIRD offers a comprehensive range of services related to waste management, including:
Recycling
- Staff and maintain 8 Recycling Centers
- Collect recyclables at 65 schools weekly
- Assist 14 satellite recycling locations
Difficult Disposals
- Provide a safe and responsible disposal option for potentially harmful items such as:
- Household Hazardous Waste (paint, batteries, electronics, oil)
- Tires
- Batteries
- Automotive Oil/Fluids
- Electronic Waste
- Pharmaceutical Waste
Reuse Stores
- Staff and manage 7 Re-Use Stores
- More than 1200 visitors explore the stores weekly
Community Support
- Prepare trash/recycling bids & contracts for district cities, towns, and counties.
- Assist counties in maintaining environmental compliance standards.
- Partner with local organizations on safety programs, community events, and educational initiatives.
Disaster Debris Assistance
- Assist all seven counties in removing debris from disasters such as tornadoes, floods, and ice storms.
- Prepare damage assessment volumes to aid communities in disaster recovery efforts.
Additional Services
- Coordinate recycling grant programs for local communities.
