Aikido RVA

Aikido RVA is a martial arts school located in Rockville, Virginia, dedicated to teaching the traditional Japanese art of Aikido. Our school is a Wadokai affiliated dojo, founded on the principles of Sensei Roy Suenaka, who is a direct student of Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido.

Our Mission

What We Teach

At Aikido RVA, we teach the traditional style of Aikido known as Suenaka-Ha Tetsugaku-Ho Aikido. This style emphasizes the development of internal power, flexibility, and coordination through the practice of various techniques, including throws, joint locks, and strikes. We also place a strong emphasis on the philosophical and spiritual aspects of Aikido, encouraging students to cultivate a sense of discipline, respect, and self-awareness.

Dojo Rules and Etiquette

We take pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and respectful environment in our dojo. We ask that students adhere to certain rules and etiquette, such as bowing upon entering and leaving the dojo, addressing instructors and senior students with respect, and maintaining a clean and organized training area.
