Keith Drewes Excavating LLC is a local, family-owned excavating contractor that has been serving the community since 2000. We are the third generation of excavating contractors with over 45 years of experience in the dirt business. Our company is built on the values of providing quality service while operating with integrity. From the beginning of every new project, clients quickly notice that Keith Drewes Excavating stands out from other excavating companies. We treat our customers with dignity and respect, and we listen to their needs to ensure they get what they want and that it will last with proper drainage and compaction.

Our History

The first generation of our family in the excavating business was our grandpa, Hjalmer "Swede" Brolin of Brolin Excavating. In the photos, he is using an old-fashioned drag line from the 1950s. He did a lot of development work in the Detroit Lakes area, including walking this machine out and digging out the sandbar between Little & Big Detroit Lakes so that boats could travel between the two lakes.

The second generation was our father, Clarence "Butch" Drewes of Clarence Drewes Construction. He started small and hired some of his brothers and his boys (Keith & Dion) to help in his growing business. He worked throughout Minnesota building interstates, airports, and building county and township roads. He also worked for many area farmers. He sold the business in the 80s, and those working for him went elsewhere.

*Site Prep: Before excavation can begin, we analyze the site and gauge the specific elements that might impact the foundation's safety and stability. This may include things like slope, topography, soil condition and composition. Site prep involves preparing the ground. Proper site work ensures the stability and durability of the ground to accommodate your project. The goal is to ensure that your vision is possible.

*Building Pads: Preparing this site involves a thorough inspection, clearing the land of any trees or debris, and building up and then leveling the soil in the area. At the end of this first stage of construction, you'll have a house pad that can withstand the weight of a foundation and house.

*Driveways & Approaches: A driveway approach is the portion of the driveway that connects public land to private land. It allows vehicles to access private property from the road or street. A permit is usually required to replace or install new driveway approaches. Permits are obtained by the property owner. The approach is located in the public right-of-way, between the edge of the road or street and the private driveway.
