Divorce without destruction

The North Carolina Collaborative Attorney Network (NC-CAN) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the Collaborative Divorce Process as a healthier and more constructive alternative to traditional litigation for separating couples. Established in 2017, NC-CAN aims to increase awareness and understanding of the Collaborative Divorce Process so that North Carolinians can make informed decisions about their divorce options and find experienced professionals to guide them through the legal divorce process. Our mission is to help separating couples maintain their dignity, enhance their communication skills, and preserve family relationships, all while avoiding the financial and emotional costs of court litigation.

The Collaborative Divorce Process

The Collaborative Divorce Process is a client-centered alternative to traditional litigation. This process provides legal help in resolving difficult and emotionally charged conflicts without going to court. With the guidance of attorneys, the parties learn how to effectively communicate to determine mutually agreed-upon resolutions to separation, whether it be financial or custody-based. Collaborative divorce encourages and enhances co-parenting and reduces the stress of divorce on children. It also helps maintain relationships with extended families and social networks, allowing for a more peaceful and dignified end to a marriage.

Collaborative divorce is typically a less costly alternative to court-annexed divorce mediation or litigation. It is a sophisticated form of settlement and embodies divorce without destruction to make a difference for the families of North Carolina. The Collaborative Divorce Process results in legally enforceable marital settlement agreements that are tailored to the unique needs of each family.
