At AlterNative Landscaping, we believe in creating beautiful, environmentally sensitive landscapes that promote Florida's natural state and help protect its environment. With over 30 years of experience in the central Florida area, we've seen firsthand the impact of developments on our beautiful places. This is why we're dedicated to bringing back Florida to its natural state through the use of native plants in our landscapes.

Our journey began as The Grass Company in 1987, a turf maintenance company. However, after several years of maintaining turf and seeing the significant amount of labor, fertilizer, and water required, we began to explore lower maintenance alternatives to turf. In 2006, we designed and installed a Water Conservation Demonstration Project for the Seminole County Water Department. This project aimed to showcase a water-conserving residential landscape that utilized native plants, requiring less chemicals and maintenance.

Since then, we've successfully transitioned dozens of turf-dominated residential landscapes into lush, low-maintenance, environmentally friendly landscapes. Our team, led by owner Richard Beggs, is committed to providing top-quality landscape design and installation services, as well as tailored landscape and property maintenance services. We work with a network of local, experienced employees and small business owners to ensure that every project meets our high standards.

Our Services

At AlterNative Landscaping, we offer a wide variety of services designed to help you create and maintain a beautiful, environmentally sensitive landscape. Our services include:

• Design: We evaluate overall site conditions, including the health of existing plants, identify invasive plants, and assess irrigation coverage, sun exposure, drainage, and soil conditions. We then discuss your needs and make recommendations based on your budget, maintenance requirements, and the time frame to maturity. We utilize as many healthy plants on site as possible, and some may need to be divided and replanted.

• Installation: Our team prepares the site by removing undesirable plants, transplanting existing plants as needed, making improvements to irrigation and drainage, and amending soil if necessary. We deliver and install high-quality plants, decorative stone, paver walkways, lighting, and water features.

• Maintenance: We offer monthly, quarterly, and annually services which include inspecting and adjusting irrigation systems and landscape lighting. Our team also provides appropriate pruning, weed control, fertilizer application, replenishing mulch, and replacing or adding plants. Additionally, we check and clean gutters if needed, pressure clean exterior of buildings, walks, and pavers, apply protective sealer and anti-slip coating to paver or stone walks, patios, or driveways.

At AlterNative Landscaping, we believe in using ground covers that are not only beautiful but also require minimal care and maintenance. Some of our favorite ground cover options include African Iris, Asiatic Jasmine, Dwarf Jasmine, Per Peanut, Sunshine Mimosa, and Yellow Sweet Potato Vine. Each of these options offers unique benefits and can help create a stunning, low-maintenance landscape.
