Our Story

J&D Cellars is a family-owned and operated winery, deeply rooted in the rich agricultural landscape of Washington County, Pennsylvania. Our journey began with John and Dot's shared passion for wine, nurtured during weekends spent exploring local wineries, enjoying the tranquility of the countryside, and savoring diverse vintages.

John's interest blossomed into a dedicated pursuit, mentored by experienced winemakers who owned a local wine-making supply store. This shared love for wine led to the formation of a winemaking club, where John and Dot, along with a group of passionate individuals, exchanged knowledge, experimented with different techniques, and refined their craft. Their preferences evolved from sweet to semi-sweet and ultimately to dry wines, reflecting their growing expertise and appreciation for the complexities of winemaking.

Fueled by this enthusiasm, John took a leap forward in 2007, planting his own vineyard. This marked a significant milestone, transforming their love affair with wine into a tangible reality. After years of careful cultivation and experimentation, John and Dot established J&D Cellars in 2011, embarking on a journey to share their passion with the world. Starting humbly, they steadily expanded their wine selection and operations, driven by a commitment to crafting exceptional wines that would resonate with a wide range of palates.

More Than Just a Winery

What began as a small operation selling wine from their garage has flourished into a thriving enterprise with a satellite store in a neighboring county. Their success has been fueled by their dedication to quality, their unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction, and their genuine love for the art of winemaking.

Currently, they are constructing a larger facility, designed to accommodate their growing production capacity and enhance the visitor experience. However, despite their expansion, John and Dot remain actively involved in every facet of their operation, from tending the vineyard and crafting the wines to managing the tasting rooms and coordinating off-site events.

Their dedication extends beyond their own winery. Recognising the importance of community building and the joy of sharing their knowledge, John and Dot recently founded the local Washington County Chapter of the American Wine Society. This initiative provides a platform for aspiring and experienced winemakers to connect, learn, and grow together.
