J & J Smart Charters

J&J Smart Charters & Deep Creek View Campground is a family-run business located in the beautiful town of Ninilchik, Alaska. Our family has been living in Alaska since 1989 and started J&J Smart Charters in 1992. We purchased Deep Creek View Campground in 1995 and have been providing unique camping experiences and enjoyment in Ninilchik for over 25 years.

Our family is passionate about what we do, and we look forward to seeing you this summer! We offer a variety of services including fishing charters, camping, and merchandise. We also have resources and travel information available to help you plan your trip to Ninilchik.

Our Crew

The entire crew at J&J Smart Charters loves what they do and is excited to meet you this summer. Our crew consists of Captain John Smart and his wife, Joan, who have lived in Alaska since 1989 and started J&J Smart Charters in 1992. Captain John is the main captain, and Joan manages the campground and assists with fishing charters. Our daughter, Captain Sarah, has been helping on fishing charters since she was 11 years old and received her captain's license in 2003. She is one of our part-time boat captains during the summer months and a part-time veterinarian. Captain Jabba Aamodt is one of our full-time captains and the current owner of the SOLO and HERS boats. We are excited to have Jabba staying at our campground for the entire summer as another member of our camp family. Captain Tim was our full-time captain until he decided to obtain a full-time, year-round job. We're very happy for Tim and his family and hope to continue to see them around the campground when they're available during the summer months. Captain Dan Retzinger, a teacher from Anchorage, has been our part-time captain for many years, when his summer schedule allows. Dan operates his own boat, the Seeker, when needed. We always look forward to hearing all of Dan's great stories. Campground Manager, Jenny, joined our "camp family" in 2015 and is our full-time Camp Manager. We are very happy to have her friendly smile, competence, and teaching experience at the campground this summer. She's absolutely incredible! Captain Bubba (Austin) is one of our captains and is excited to meet you this summer.

Fishing Charters

J&J Smart Charters offers a variety of fishing charters for both beginners and experienced anglers. We provide fishing charters for halibut, salmon, and clamming, as well as live aboard and drop-off bear and moose hunts. Our experienced captains will help you catch the fish of a lifetime and ensure a safe and enjoyable fishing experience.

Camping

Deep Creek View Campground is a beautiful place to stay while you're in Ninilchik. We offer tent sites, electric sites, and cabins for rent. Our campsites are equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and access to clean restrooms and showers. We also have a general store on site that offers snacks, drinks, and fishing supplies.

Merchandise

J&J Smart Charters & Deep Creek View Campground offers a variety of merchandise for both men and women. Our merchandise includes t-shirts, hats, hoodies, and fishing gear. Whether you're looking for a souvenir or some new fishing gear, we've got you covered.
