Hello from our well-equipped studio located in the heart of Riverhead, Long Island, New York. We are a team of skilled craftspeople, led by Claudia and Mike, with Gracie and Baby as our official greeters. Our studio is a bustling hive of creativity and expertise, where we work tirelessly to bring your fashion, home decor, and light upholstery projects to life.

Our Expertise

We specialize in a wide range of services, from simple hems on pants and skirts to intricate wedding dress alterations and men's suits. Our custom sewing skills are unparalleled, and we can create drapes, window treatments, pillows, quilts, blankets, and more, all tailored to your exact specifications. We also offer slip and cushion covers for your chairs, sofas, bench seats, and boats, as well as light upholstery services.

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, our upholstery section will be closed for the foreseeable future. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and hope to be able to offer this service again in the future.

Claudia, the founder of Lake Avenue Design, has over 40 years of experience in the sewing industry. She has sewed costumes, wedding gowns, men's suits, business and casual attire, prototypes for industries, home decor of any kind, and even "doggie" underwear. Her motto is, "If I can fit it under the sewing machine foot, I will sew it."

Mike, Claudia's right-hand man, has been with the company for several years and has learned the art of sewing from Claudia herself. He specializes in light upholstery and cushion projects, and takes great pride in taking things apart, putting them back together better than they were before, and using power tools.

Our Studio

Our studio is well-equipped with several sewing machines for different applications. We have heavy-duty industrial machines capable of sewing leather and canvas, as well as machines set up just to handle delicate fabrics such as chiffon, laces, organza, tulle, and netting. Our light upholstery section is set up to accommodate single stuffed chairs, small love seats, dining room and office chairs, and we have even made custom upholstered headboards and restored an old toy box.

Finding Us

We are located approximately 1.5 miles from downtown Riverhead, in a location that is convenient for both the North and South Forks and points West. We welcome visitors, but suggest contacting us prior to your visit to ensure we are in the shop and not enjoying a well-deserved lunch break.
