Settlers Federal Credit Union was established in 1932 by a group of local farmers in Ontonagon and Gogebic Counties who faced difficulties obtaining financing for their crops and livestock. With initial assets of $750.00, this small collective laid the foundation for what would become a trusted and integral part of the community. Over the years, the credit union has adapted to the changing needs of its members, broadening its reach and expanding its services while staying true to its original mission and values.

In 2007, Settlers Federal Credit Union transitioned from a state-chartered credit union to a federally-chartered one, further solidifying its financial stability. In 2008, the credit union moved into a new main office building, reflecting its continued growth and commitment to serving its members.
