Examples of Our Restoration & Repair
At Rug Repairman, we have successfully restored and repaired many valuable and treasured rugs and kilims. Some examples of our work include:
- A 10' x 14' double-knotted Persian rug that was damaged from a flower pot and other substantial damage. We shipped the rug to our workshop in Turkey where our experts worked on it for about two weeks. The customer was amazed to see that the rug was once again restored to its original beauty.
- A 5' x 7' Turkish rug that was cut in half by two brothers who didn't realize it was an antique and expensive. We sent the rug to our workshop in Turkey where experts worked for two months to repair the damage and reconnect the rug pieces. When the brothers saw the rug after repairs were made, they couldn't believe how beautifully the rug had been restored.
- A 6'5" x 7'5" Kazak rug that sustained damage at the ends and had become fragile and breakable. Our repairman in Turkey used the "twisting technique" and was able to repair the fringes, one by one. The time needed to complete this repair was three weeks.
Our Story
Our founder, Mehmet Solak, was born in Turkey and grew up in a culture and tradition specializing in woven and handcrafted rugs and kilims. In fact, several of his family members are professional weavers of beautiful carpets and kilims. Mehmet and his family moved to Seattle in 2007 from their hometown of Sultan Han in central Turkey, long a center of rug making and repair. Mehmet began his 28-year career in the carpet industry at age 14, working in his cousin's rug shop. He indicates it is very important to learn all about rugs and kilims beginning at a very early age. After spending five years in Istanbul, learning as much as possible about the rug and kilim industry, he returned to his hometown, married, and started a new life in the United States.
