Communication Issues
Several reviewers experienced poor communication with the staff at Berkeley Marine Center. James Rife mentioned that the staff seemed to have a "customers are idiots" vibe, making him feel belittled and blamed. He also experienced a lack of communication, with different staff members giving him different stories. Greg U. had a similar issue, where the yard manager, Ruben, failed to notify him of additional costs and repairs, despite being informed of the limited budget.
Quality of Work
Tyler B. and Stan Kroshchenko were extremely dissatisfied with the quality of work done at Berkeley Marine Center. Tyler B. mentioned that the work was done poorly, with rusty razor blades, piles of sawdust, and loose screws left on the boat. Stan Kroshchenko found out that the paint used was not of high quality, as claimed on the website. Connor, on the other hand, had a positive experience with the yard staff, who were professional and great at their work.
Pricing and Billing
Several reviewers were surprised by additional costs and bills. Tyler B. was charged substantially more than quoted, and the owner, Cree, got angry and aggressive when he questioned the charges. Greg U. was surprised by a bill for additional $850 for rudder repairs that were done without his authorization.
Positive Experiences
Gerald Sims and Connor had positive experiences with Berkeley Marine Center. Gerald Sims found the staff to be helpful and knowledgeable, and they provided him with a fitting that suited his needs. Connor was happy with the haul-out and bottom paint job done on his 1915 commercial troller, and found the prices to be lower than other Bay Area yards.
