Genesee Yacht Club

For nearly nine decades, the Genesee Yacht Club has been a hub for sailing enthusiasts, providing a welcoming community that fosters camaraderie, sharing of knowledge, and enjoyment of the sport. Founded in 1934, our mission is to encourage yachting and sailing, further the arts and sciences pertaining to seamanship, piloting, and navigation, and provide and maintain suitable clubhouse and dockage facilities for the benefit of our members and the sailing community.

Our Services

At the Genesee Yacht Club, we offer a wide range of services and activities designed to meet the diverse needs and interests of our members. Our program includes:

• Racing Program: Tuesday evening races and Saturday regattas provide opportunities for members to test their skills and compete with fellow sailors.
• Cruising Program: Our week-end cruises in June and August, and a two-week cruise in July, offer a chance to explore Lake Ontario and visit other yacht clubs and marinas.
• Junior Sailing: Our Optimist sailing school, in cooperation with the Rochester Yacht Club, provides a fun and educational experience for young sailors.
• Social Activities: From impromptu gatherings on the riverside patio to formal events like the Commodore's Reception, there's always something for everyone to participate in.

Club Meetings

Our monthly meetings, held on the first Thursday of each month (except July), offer members the opportunity to learn about the club's activities, share their experiences, and participate in decision-making processes. Meetings include a typical agenda of program, guest introductions, secretary's report, treasurer's report, and vice commodore's report, among others.

Visiting the Genesee Yacht Club

We welcome visitors from reciprocal clubs and offer docking facilities for boats up to 35 feet in length. Our docks are maintained at a minimum depth of 6 feet, with 30-amp power and water. Free high-speed wireless Internet is available throughout the property.

General Information for Visitors

Our facilities include:

• A covered patio with tables, chairs, and gas grills
• The Robert Read Room with fireplace, television, DVD player, game table, and comfortable chairs
• Washrooms, including showers
• A fully equipped kitchen
• Ice is available from the ice freezer on the south side of the property, near the travel lift/service slip
• A garbage dumpster and recycle bin are located in the parking lot east of the clubhouse
