The Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home stands as a pillar of tradition and compassionate service in Osawatomie, Kansas. As the oldest operating funeral business in Miami County, with roots dating back to 1926, we have been entrusted with guiding families through life's most challenging moments for generations. Our commitment to providing respectful, personalized care has earned us the trust and confidence of families throughout the community.
A Legacy of Service
Our story is woven into the fabric of Osawatomie's history. We began as the Eddy Funeral Home, founded by Leonard "L.J." and Beulah Eddy, two individuals deeply committed to serving their community. L.J., having honed his skills at Johnson Undertaking Company, embraced the opportunity to establish his own funeral home, providing comforting solace to grieving families during a time of immense need. Over the years, the Eddy Funeral Home expanded, eventually moving to a larger location on Main Street and welcoming William "Bill" Eddy, L.J.'s son, into the family business.
In 1932, another legacy began with the establishment of the Birchard Funeral Home by Willis W. and Edyth M. Birchard. Their vision was to create a dedicated space for honoring the lives of their neighbors, a haven of peace and reflection. This pioneering establishment marked the first dedicated funeral home in Miami County, setting a new standard for compassionate care.
The paths of these two esteemed funeral homes intertwined in 1977, culminating in the merging of the Eddy and Birchard Funeral Homes to form the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Larry and Lela Brown, formerly owners of the Birchard Funeral Home, joined forces with Joe and Martha Moreland, who had purchased the Eddy Funeral Home, to create a seamless and harmonious fusion of their traditions and expertise.
