Our History

Our company's humble beginnings date back to 1974, when Tony McDowell planted the seed for what has grown to become McDowell Lumber and Pallet today. Starting with a single portable saw and a lumberjack's eye, Tony scouted the woods of North Carolina for timber fit to become railroad ties. Over the years, we branched out from the railroad industry into other markets, supplying raw timber resources that had been crafted into a vast array of grades for a variety of uses. For nearly 50 years, McDowell Lumber and Pallet has been serving customers in the Carolinas to various states and countries all over the world.

Our Services

We are a hardwood lumber manufacturer and a hardwood pallet manufacturer. Our lumber is sold wholesale, while pallets and pallet parts are sold locally and through brokers. We also sell mulch, chips, and sawdust locally in full trailer loads, moving all our material on our own trucking fleet. Additionally, we buy land, timber, and logs, working closely with landowners to ensure the sustainable management of our natural resources.

Forestry and Environmental Responsibility

As a member of the logging industry, we remain steadfast in our commitment to protecting our surrounding environment and this renewable resource to ensure its existence for generations to come. Our Forestry division exists to maintain our compliance with national EPA regulations and develop forest management plans to replenish the timber utilized in our daily production. We work closely with landowners to ensure the responsible management of their timber, from logging to transportation to reforestation.

Quality and Sustainability

At McDowell Lumber and Pallet Company, we are dedicated to quality and sustainability. We supply processed lumber to a wide variety of industries, including furniture and flooring manufacturers, distribution yards, and lumber distribution centers. Our goal is to keep waste as minimal as possible, ensuring we get the most out of our resources. We process hardwoods in preparation for use in furniture, door frames, cabinetry, flooring, fencing, and pallets, while softwoods are sold to other sawmills for specialized processing. Bark becomes mulch, and chip mills make use of our smaller logs.
