Clear Focus Eye Care, PC is the private optometric practice of Dr. Karena Strain. Dr. Strain has practiced optometry in the York, Carlisle, and Harrisburg areas since 1992. As well as performing routine eye exams and contact lens fittings, Dr. Strain is therapeutically licensed. She treats urgent care patients for symptoms of red eye, dry eye, foreign bodies, as well as managing glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye health. She is comfortable performing eye exams on children aged 4 and up. Dr. Strain has many years of experience caring for pre- and post-cataract patients.

The Clear Focus Eye Care staff is made up of local friendly women with decades of vision care experience with an eye for quality service and style. In addition to excellent health care, we offer an array of vision correction options. Our optical shop has hundreds of affordable and designer eye glass frames and sunwear. We carry the latest in contact lens options including disposables, colors, Toric, and Bifocal soft and RGP lenses. State-of-the-art care is now available for dry eye as well. The Tear Care System is available for the most common type of Dry eye, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction. For more severe corneal issues, the use of amniotic membranes is often employed with great success.

Dr. Karena Strain, originally from Dover, PA, moved to Red Lion with her family and graduated from Red Lion Area Senior High in 1984. She attended and graduated from IUP, class of 1988, and then PA College of Optometry, class of 1992. She is currently a member of the Central PA Optometric Society, PA Optometric Association, and the American Optometric Association. She is a past president of the Weigelstown Lions Club and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Service Award. Dr. Strain enjoys being part of the Hand Bell Choir at Calvary Lutheran Church, where she is a member of the church council. Dr. Strain has lived in East Berlin with her family and many pets since 1997.

Our Services

We happily provide comprehensive eye exams, vision analysis with refraction, and eye health assessments with glaucoma tests. These services are covered under vision plans. We also offer medical eye exams, which include eye health assessments to monitor the presence of eye disease, including Diabetic Retina exams. These services are usually covered under medical insurance. Additionally, we provide refractions, which are computer-assisted vision analyses. This service can be paid for by patients without vision insurance to generate an eye glass prescription.

We offer contact lens exams, which include a comprehensive eye exam plus additional tests to determine the best contact lens for you. This service requires an additional fee. We also provide a wide range of contact lens options, including daily, weekly, monthly, and annual lenses, as well as colored and bifocal lenses.

Recently, Dr. Strain donated her time for the Crispus Attucks health fair and Eyes of Hope. This event provides free vision care and glasses for those in need, in the York community. Dr. Strain was able to provide free eye exams in the VSP mobile optical office, also fully equipped with a mobile lab providing same-day glasses. What a blessing Dr. Strain is to our community and all of those who trust her with their eye care needs!
