The Difference
As a private practitioner, my approach is tailored to each individual's unique needs and goals. I provide a welcoming and quiet environment, free from the distractions of a traditional office setting. My goal is to help individuals explore and address the challenges and concerns that arise in their life's journey.
About Counseling and Psychotherapy
Emotions can be triggered by a specific event, personality, or biological makeup. It's common to feel anxious or depressed, like you're in a crisis, or questioning your relationships. Counseling is a means to understand why you feel certain ways. It's also a way to change your behavior and outlook to become "unstuck" from unproductive patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting. Counseling helps regain balance when one feels that their foundation has been shaken. There are different types of counseling therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral, problem-solving, insight-oriented, and mindfulness-based approaches. Each style has its benefits and a place in helping individuals reach their goals. Collaboration between the therapist and the individual is essential for successful therapy.
The Therapist
I earned my master's degree from SUNY-Albany and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) through the New York State Education Department. I am also a certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work through the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work. This certification in advanced practice means I meet and maintain high standards in clinical education, training, and experience. With years of experience in family services, community mental health, criminal justice, medical settings, and my private practice, I have helped individuals and couples understand and apply theoretical concepts to their own lives.
Private Practice in a Home-Like Setting
Cooper Counseling offers a private practice in a home-like setting, allowing individuals and couples to manage their stress and develop coping skills in a comfortable and welcoming environment.
Your First Session
During your first session, you will have the opportunity to share your concerns, feelings, and symptoms. I will ask questions based on what you share and will review topics such as past mental health treatment, substance use, and your goals. We will also discuss my impressions based on what you've said and my thoughts for how treatment should proceed.
