Rebalance Your Body, Reclaim Your Health
The Center for Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine was founded by Dr. MaryEllen Velahos, DAc., L.Ac. in Pennsylvania in 2005, with a vision to create a health system where both western trained allopathic physicians and traditional health practitioners work together to provide the best care for their patients. Since 2022, we have relocated to Stamford, CT and Cave Creek, AZ.
Founder, Dr. MaryEllen Velahos, discovered her passion for acupuncture and Chinese Medicine after experiencing the transformative effects of treatments on her chronic condition. With weekly acupuncture sessions, she witnessed a 100% improvement in her health, leaving her in awe of the virtually pain-free process and the relaxation it brought. This life-changing experience inspired her to become a licensed acupuncturist, opening The Center for Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine in Bala Cynwyd.
Our belief is that Chinese Medicine offers a rebalancing treatment for every condition. The body, when in balance, has the remarkable ability to heal itself. We strive to provide a personalized approach, rebalancing the body's energy and allowing the natural healing process to take place. Our experienced and licensed acupuncturists are dedicated to offering the highest quality of care to our patients in both our Stamford, CT, and Cave Creek, AZ, locations.

Services Offered by The Center for Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine
At The Center for Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine, we offer a wide range of services based on Chinese Medicine principles. Our experienced acupuncturists are highly trained to diagnose and treat various health conditions, focusing on the whole person and their overall well-being. Our services include:
1. Acupuncture: A traditional Chinese Medicine technique that involves the strategic placement and manipulation of sterile, thin needles into the skin at specific points on the body. Acupuncture aids in energy flow or "Qi, " rebalancing the body and promoting natural healing.
2. Herbal Medicine: Chinese Herbal Medicine offers personalized natural remedies tailored to patients' specific health needs. Our practitioners carefully select and combine herbs into custom formulas to facilitate healing and rebalancing.
3. Cupping Therapy: A method that involves creating a vacuum on the skin to increase blood flow, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain. Cupping helps with respiratory issues, muscle tension, and detoxification.
4. Moxibustion: A technique that involves burning herbs near specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow. Moxibustion supports the immune system, encourages blood circulation, and alleviates pain.
5. Chinese Nutritional Therapy: This holistic approach to nutrition considers the individual's health issues, lifestyle, and emotions. Our practitioners recommend dietary modifications that promote healing and balance within the body.
6. Auricular Therapy: Acupuncture of the ear that helps in the treatment of various conditions, including stress, addiction, chronic pain, and sleep disorders.
7. Gua Sha: A therapeutic technique that scrapes the skin to remove stagnant energy, increase circulation, and promote healing.
