Welcome to the vibrant world of music led by Dr. Laura Broughton, a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music. Our mission is to cultivate a love for music in students of all ages, from preschoolers to retirees, through quality piano and voice lessons. At Music in My Garden, we believe that a teacher's personality and enthusiasm can significantly impact a student's enjoyment of learning. That's why Dr. Laura's engaging style of instruction ensures that students not only acquire musical skills but also develop a deep appreciation for the beauty of music. Music education is a lifelong investment that surpasses all other extracurricular activities, providing enjoyment that lasts a lifetime.

Dr. Laura Broughton: Credentials and Professional Memberships

Dr. Laura Broughton holds the Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. She has served three terms as president of the Hattiesburg Music Teachers League (HMTL) and is currently the chair of the 2021 HMTL Composer Festival. Dr. Broughton has earned Permanent Professional Certification in Piano from Music Teachers National Association and is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM). She is a member of several professional organizations, including HMTL, Mississippi Music Teachers Association, Music Teachers National Association, Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs, and is a piano and voice teacher.

Piano Lessons

At Music in My Garden, we offer piano lessons for students of all ages and skill levels. Dr. Laura's extensive training and experience enable her to tailor lessons to meet each student's unique needs and goals. From learning to read music and understanding music theory to mastering various piano techniques, students will gain a strong foundation in piano skills and a deep appreciation for music.

Voice Lessons

Our voice lessons cater to students interested in various genres, such as classical, Broadway, and pop music. Dr. Laura's expertise and passion for teaching vocal technique, music theory, and performance skills empower students to discover their voice and develop confidence in their singing abilities.

Performance Opportunities

At Music in My Garden, we provide numerous performance opportunities for students to showcase their talents and develop self-confidence. From Hattiesburg Music Teachers League recitals to annual Studio Honors Recitals and Studio Carol Programs, students can choose the events that best suit their interests and abilities. Dr. Laura also encourages students to participate in music festivals, such as the National Federation of Music Clubs District Festival and the Mississippi Music Teachers Association Pre-College Evaluations and State Finals. Many of her students are invited to play at church and school events, as well as family gatherings.
