The History of Starr Hollow
Starr Hollow's history dates back to the mid-1960s when Marvin Leonard purchased Star Hollow Ranch. The ranch, which is believed to have been a hideout for the legendary "Bandit Queen of the Wild West, " Belle Starr, is an authentic 4,000-acre working cattle operation. After purchasing the ranch, Leonard began building a deep, 90-acre lake, a private golf course, and a private, rustic clubhouse. The clubhouse overlooks a large green that is shaped to resemble the state of Texas, and the lake supplies water for irrigating the course.
Starr Hollow was Leonard's personal golf course, and it remained so until his passing. Today, the club is one of the most exclusive private golf clubs in the United States, with membership by invitation or member recommendation and renewed annually in July. The course is kept in pristine condition each and every day, and the clubhouse offers a rustic and relaxing atmosphere for members to enjoy.
The Golf Course
Starr Hollow Golf Club is a nine-hole course that is kept in pristine condition each and every day. The fairways are manicured, the greens are freshly cut, the pins are newly placed, and the clubhouse is staffed to provide personalized service to members. The course is challenging and offers a unique golfing experience that is reminiscent of Augusta National Golf Club, earning it the nickname "Little Augusta."
The Clubhouse
The Starr Hollow clubhouse is a rustic and relaxing atmosphere that offers members a place to unwind after a round of golf. The clubhouse overlooks a large green that is shaped to resemble the state of Texas, and it offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The clubhouse serves Starr Hollow Burgers, made from Black Angus cattle raised on the ranch, fresh from the grill.
Location
Starr Hollow Ranch is located west of Granbury, Texas, and north of the tiny town of Tolar. The ranch is an hour's drive from Fort Worth by automobile and a 20-minute trip by helicopter. As you enter the ranch's main gate, you may encounter lazy Longhorn cattle, deer, turkey, feral hogs, bobcats, fox, rabbits, coyotes, snakes, and other wild critters that call Starr Hollow home.
Membership
Membership at Starr Hollow Golf Club is by invitation or member recommendation and is renewed annually in July. The club is one of the most exclusive private golf clubs in the United States, and membership is a privilege that is extended only to a select few.
Founder's Vision
Marvin Leonard, the founder of Starr Hollow Golf Club, was a visionary who saw the potential for building a world-class golf course in the heart of Texas. Leonard took up golf to relax and became friends with Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson, two of the greatest golfers of all time. As a member and director of River Crest Country Club, Leonard became adamant about installing bentgrass greens on the club's golf course. When other members were not enthusiastic about the idea, Leonard decided to build his own golf course, resulting in the creation of Colonial Country Club and later Starr Hollow Golf Club.
In conclusion, Starr Hollow Golf Club is a golfing paradise that offers an unparalleled golfing experience. With its rich history, pristine course conditions, and personalized service, Starr Hollow Golf Club is one of the most exclusive private golf clubs in the United States. If you have the privilege of receiving an invitation to join, do not hesitate to accept. You will not be disappointed.
