At The MJB Wellness Center, we specialize in helping patients relieve their pain whether it be physically, mentally, or spiritually. In our practice, there are many different modalities offered such as acupuncture, massage, as well as reiki. We pride ourselves on our patient relationships and on our ability to create a healing space where health and happiness are possible.

Our practice is run by Mara J Berkowitz-O'Hagan, who graduated from the New York College for Health Professions where she received her license in Massage Therapy in 2001. Mara further went on to study and become a Reiki Master in 2006. In 2013, Mara graduated magna cum laude from the New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine where she also received a Master of Science Degree in Acupuncture. Mara is board certified and licensed in acupuncture. As an acupuncturist, she treats a variety of disorders including back pain, headaches, muscle spasms, anxiety, depression, addictions, PMS, stress, and much more. As a Massage Therapist, Mara specializes in deep tissue, medical massage, stretching, pregnancy massage, and energy work.

At MJB Wellness Center, we accept insurance as well as private patients. Some insurance plans that we accept are United Empire Plan, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and PPO United Plans. Acupuncture and Massage are also covered under No Fault. Please call to verify whether we accept your insurance, as well as call for any inquiries.

Acupuncture

The theory and practice of acupuncture are based on a comprehensive holistic health care system that has been used in Asian countries for thousands of years to diagnose, treat, prevent illness, and maintain health. Acupuncture treats a wide variety of health conditions by stimulating points found at specific locations of the body. Acupuncturists stimulate these points by inserting very thin needles through the skin to elicit physiological effects. Along with this method, acupuncturists also use heat, pressure, friction, suction, or impulses of electromagnetic energy to stimulate the points. The acupuncture points are stimulated to balance the movement of energy (qi) in the body to restore health.
