Dark Star Book Store

Dark Star Books is a family-run business, which has been successfully operating in Yellow Springs, Ohio for over 36 years. Our journey began in 1982 when Mary Alice Wilson, a dedicated educator, decided to shift her focus from teaching to her true passion: books. She opened the first Dark Star Books and Comics store in the King's Yard area of Yellow Springs, with a small inventory of comic books and a dream to provide a haven for book lovers.

Over the years, our store has grown and expanded, moving across the street to a new location on Xenia Avenue, and eventually settling into our current home in 1989. We have been fortunate enough to see our customer base grow and evolve, and we are grateful for the continued support of the local community.

In 2007, we made the decision to sell our new comics business to Super-Fly Comics, a successful comic shop located just around the corner from us. This allowed us to focus on our used book inventory, which has since grown to over 40,000 titles. We now carry a wide range of genres, including classics, science fiction, metaphysics, military history, and everything in between.

In 2012, Mary's daughter Kate returned to Yellow Springs and took over the management of the store. Under her leadership, we have continued to grow and expand our inventory, adding new sections and product lines to cater to the diverse interests of our customers. We now carry a selection of new books, literary-themed merchandise, and a variety of items from popular franchises such as Studio Ghibli.
