Our History
Founded in 1915 by Ben McMurry and Charles I. Barber, our firm has designed dozens of iconic and distinctive buildings in East Tennessee, from the Beaux Arts inspired designs of the early 20th century to modern, progressive styles of today. Our projects have won over 90 design awards in the last two decades, and we've been recognized as an Outstanding Emerging Professional Friendly Firm by AIA Tennessee.

Our Community
Our open office encourages collaboration and communication, and our location on Market Square connects us to the vibrant spirit of Downtown Knoxville. We believe in giving back to the community, and we volunteer and offer pro-bono design services to local and regional non-profits. We also fund the BarberMcMurry Endowed Design Professorship at the University of Tennessee, which brings internationally known design professionals to teach students.
