Our History

Since 1973, Adams Transit Trucking Company has been a trusted name in the transportation industry, dedicated to providing exceptional freight services throughout the upper Midwest region. Our story began in response to the growing shipping needs of our parent warehousing company, Cupery & De Young Storage Corporation. Recognizing the need for reliable interstate transportation solutions for their clients, Adams Transit was established to handle this increasing volume and complexities.

Initially operating solely as an interstate carrier, Adams Transit complemented the warehousing company's intrastate operations, efficiently managing the transportation needs of their shared customer base. As our customer base expanded beyond the realm of warehousing and the trucking industry itself underwent deregulation in 1980, Adams Transit evolved into a comprehensive intrastate and interstate carrier, seamlessly absorbing all trucking responsibilities previously handled by both companies.

A Commitment to Quality and Innovation

Throughout our history, a key element of our success has been our unwavering commitment to utilizing cutting-edge equipment and pioneering innovative solutions. Early on, we perfected the transportation of palletized cans of food on flatbed trailers, setting a new standard for efficiency. Our strategic choice of 44-foot trailers coupled with 90-inch short cab tractors allowed us to transport an impressive 12% more freight compared to our competitors.

Our groundbreaking approach to trailer design involved operating 48-foot long trailers within the federal government's 55-foot length limit. By cleverly utilizing a Cab Over Engine (COE) tractor with a maximum cab length of 63 inches, a short Detroit Diesel V8 or V6 engine, tandem rear axles, and an extended rear frame with a 146-inch wheelbase, we achieved a unique tractor-trailer combination that maximized space and efficiency without violating regulations.

Today, Adams Transit operates a fleet of high-cube food-grade dry vans, offering truckload service throughout the Midwest. We also frequently undertake runs to other parts of the country for customers seeking our renowned "Service Excellence." Our commitment to providing on-time deliveries is evident in our consistently outstanding performance - average on-time delivery rates exceeding 97% across our entire customer base.

Furthermore, our smaller fleet size allows us to focus intensely on each individual freight move, ensuring that every shipment receives the personalized attention and commitment to Service Excellence that has become synonymous with the Adams Transit name.
