History of Denino's Pizzeria & Tavern

Denino's Pizzeria & Tavern has a rich history that dates back to 1937 when Carlo Denino's father, John, opened a Confectionery store on the corner of Richmond Avenue and Hooker Place in the Port Richmond section of Staten Island, NY. It was in 1944 that Carlo Denino was born, and in 1951 that Carlo introduced pizza to the tavern, which was a big hit.

Through the years, Denino's Pizzeria & Tavern has been commemorated for its contributions to the community and the history of Staten Island. In 1990, the corner of Port Richmond Avenue and Hooker Place was dedicated to Carlo's memory and renamed Carlo Denino's Way. In 2007, Denino's Pizzeria & Tavern celebrated 70 years of being in business at the same location with a grand picnic held in Carlo Denino's memory. In 2008, Denino's Pizzeria & Tavern won AOL's "City's Best" for the best pizza in New York City two consecutive years.

The Denino family has continued to expand the business over the years, opening Denino's South Pizzeria on the Jersey Shore and franchising the business. Today, Denino's Pizzeria remains committed to following in Carlo's footsteps and honoring the tradition of specializing in authentic NY Style Pizza, in addition to a full-service Italian menu.
