Established in 1956 by Jerry Wilson, the company's journey began with a fleet of four Stearman bi-wing aircraft dedicated to crop dusting operations. This period also marked a pivotal shift as Hillcrest became a Cessna dealer and an FAA Repair Station in 1960. Cessnas became a cornerstone of their operations, utilized for charter services, flight instruction, and embracing the independent maintenance needs of light fixed-wing aircraft owners. This commitment to excellence propelled Hillcrest to become the top single-engine Cessna aircraft seller in the entire United States in 1961. By the end of the 1960s, the company's helicopter fleet had grown to an impressive ten Bell model 47s, reflecting the expanding horizons of Hillcrest.

The Legacy Continues

Jerry Wilson's son, Gale, inherited his father's profound passion for aviation. Like his father before him, he soared above the expectations, achieving his private pilot license on his 17th birthday, followed by his commercial pilot license on his 18th birthday. Graduating with a degree in Business and Finance from the University of Idaho in 1974, Gale seamlessly integrated into the family business, working full-time alongside his father. In 1978, Gale, armed with his astute business acumen, convinced his father to divest their fixed-wing aircraft holdings, focusing solely on the future of helicopters. His leadership journey culminated in him assuming the presidency of Hillcrest in 1991 after serving as Vice President from 1980 to 1991.

Gale's son, Keith, sharing the same affinity for both piloting and aircraft mechanics, joined Hillcrest in 1995, eventually earning the position of Vice President.

Hillcrest Aircraft Company's corporate headquarters proudly stand tall at the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport in Lewiston, Idaho, with a satellite base strategically located in Orofino, Idaho.

The Lewiston facility encompasses five interconnected buildings. Their main hangar boasts a spacious 28,000 square feet, encompassing managerial offices, a maintenance hangar, a dedicated overhaul shop, and secure storage for the company's own aerial fleet. Three additional structures belonging to Hillcrest provide over 36,000 square feet of rental space, accommodating the diverse needs of various customer aircraft.
