Help Someone in Need Get the Support They Deserve
At the Dyslexia Tutoring Program, our mission is to empower individuals with dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities to overcome their challenges and reach their full potential. Founded in 1984, our program has been dedicated to providing expert tutoring and support services to low-income children and adults in Baltimore and surrounding counties.
Our Services
Our program offers a comprehensive range of services designed to address the unique needs of individuals with dyslexia. Our expertly trained tutors utilize the Orton-Gillingham approach, a researched-based multi-sensory method that has proven to be the most effective in teaching reading, writing, and spelling. Our services include:
- Professional assessments to identify individuals with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities
- One-on-one tutoring sessions with trained volunteer tutors
- Multi-sensory instruction in reading, writing, and spelling
- Supplemental programs and materials to support learning and progress
Our History
Our journey began in 1984, when a group of concerned citizens in Southeast Baltimore recognized the devastating effects of dyslexia on young adults who were struggling with criminal behavior. With the guidance of renowned psychologist Roger Saunders, our founders pioneered the program MADAY (Maryland Associates for Dyslexic Adults and Youth). Over the years, we have evolved to serve individuals of all ages and backgrounds, offering free services to those who need them the most.
Our Board
Our Board of Directors is comprised of dedicated individuals from various fields, including education, psychology, and business. Together, we strive to ensure the program's continuation and growth, while staying true to our mission and values.
