Architectural Doors & Windows began in 1946 as Portland Glass with a single shop in Portland, Maine, specializing in automotive glass repair. The Company was founded by Samuel Cohen, who had learned the glass trade in Boston and Lewiston, and who moved to Portland in 1946 to set up his own business. Over the years, the company has grown and expanded its services to include a wide range of glass products and solutions for various industries such as office buildings, handrails, interior glass, custom glass, tent walls, retail buildings, medical buildings, educational facilities, and public buildings.

History and Milestones
In 1963, Sam Cohen died, and his son Gene took over the business. By 1966, Portland Glass was offering replacement service for storefront glass. In 1997, Portland Glass retail stores were sold to Harmon Glass, and AD&W Architectural Doors & Windows was created. Since then, Jonathan Cohen has been leading the steady growth of AD&W. In 2004, AD&W expanded into the realm of Alucobond panels for building skins. In 2009, the production facility was expanded to 30,000 square feet. In 2010, AD&W began using Revit and BIM for software modeling of projects. In 2011, AD&W was selected to fabricate and install the Curtain Wall and Alucobond for the Maine General Medical Center's New Regional Hospital. The company has continued to expand its operations and services since then.
