The Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education is a charitable organization dedicated to supporting lighting education in North America since its establishment in 1988. We rely on the generosity of our donors to further our mission of inspiring students with an understanding of light in architecture. Our endowment fund has given over $2,000,500 to support lighting education on the college level across North America.
Fund Management
The Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education has a dedicated management team that oversees the annual solicitation and review of proposals from colleges and universities for innovative educational ideas consistent with the Fund's objectives. Each year, we offer funding for three grants and present four academic awards to students for outstanding achievement in lighting studies.
Grants Offered
*The Nuckolls Fund Grant*: This $30,000 grant has been awarded annually since 1989 for the development and delivery of an innovative new or expanded course in lighting at the college level.
*The Edison Price Fellowship Grant*: This $20,000 grant enables a lighting educator to further their education by working with a manufacturing or design firm, or at a college or university with a thriving lighting program.
*The Lesley Wheel Introductory Lighting Program Grant*: This $30,000 grant is directed towards programs in architecture, engineering, technology, and interior design that currently have minimal or no lighting design offerings in their curricula.
*Create Your Own Grant*: We welcome proposals for funding that further the cause of quality lighting education, even if they do not fit into one of our listed grant categories.
Student Academic Awards
Each year, four awards are presented to students for outstanding achievement in lighting studies. The students who receive these academic awards are nominated by their faculty.
Educational Resources
Projects that receive Nuckolls Fund support frequently result in information of broad interest to lighting educators. The Fund is beginning to post some curriculum developed by funded educators for the benefit of the lighting community. We expect to add other teaching aids, including symposia reports, and more.
