Our Story

In the year 1962, a group of 14 founding members, led by Bill Adams, N.K. Dickerson, Ed Gaskins, Frank Griffin, Robert Helms, Charles Hunley, James Huntley, Ted Morgan, Hugh Murrill, Albert Orr Jr., James C. Plyler, Harold Shirley, James Spencer, and Dr. Fred Wilson, envisioned a gathering place for friends. This vision was brought to life with the establishment of Rolling Hills Country Club, located in Monroe, NC. Over the years, Rolling Hills has grown into a family-oriented, golf and country club, offering exceptional facilities for the whole family to enjoy.

Our story began with the purchase of the Rowena Shute Farm on Roosevelt Blvd. in 1960. Shortly after, a land trade with Catawba Oil Co. ensured that the frontage property line of both parties was squared up. In 1961, George Cobb and Associates were engaged to plan and design an 18-hole golf course, which would later become a signature feature of the club. The construction of the first nine holes of the golf course began in October 1961, with the first round of golf being played on September 28, 1963.

In 1963, the original RHCC swimming pool was constructed, along with the "Little Red Pro Shop" which served as the Pro Shop and restrooms for the pool. Over the years, the club has continued to grow and evolve, with the addition of a clubhouse in 1966, the construction of the second nine holes of the golf course and four composition surface tennis courts in 1969, and numerous renovations and improvements throughout the decades.

Today, Rolling Hills Country Club remains a premier private country club in Union County, offering a range of services and facilities for its members and their families to enjoy.

Membership

Rolling Hills Country Club offers a variety of membership options to suit the needs of different individuals and families. These include:

• Regular Golf Membership: Entitles the member and their immediate family to the use of all golf, tennis, swimming, and dining facilities of the Club.
• Junior Golf Membership: Entitles the member and their immediate family to the use of all golf, tennis, swimming, and dining facilities of the Club, with varying rates for different age groups (21-30, 31-35, 36-39).
• Sports Membership: Entitles the member and their immediate family to the use of the dining facility, swimming pool, and tennis facility, with one tee time per month included. Guest are permitted under current guest rate, and tee times are permitted Monday-Friday anytime and after 12:00pm Saturday and Sunday.
• Tennis Membership: Entitles the member and their immediate family to the use of the dining facility, swimming pool, and tennis facility, with no golf privileges.
• Social Membership: Entitles the member and their family to dining privileges and swimming pool use, with no golf or tennis privileges.

Rolling Hills Country Club is a private, member-owned country club, and all applications for membership must be approved by the Board of Directors.
