Illuminating the Artistic Spirit
At Spark Gallery, we're passionate about providing a platform for local artists to showcase their talents and connect with the community. As the oldest self-supporting, co-operative art gallery in Denver, we've been dedicated to promoting the arts for over 45 years. Our gallery is a 501C-3 non-profit organization, and we welcome donations in any amount to support our mission.
Our History
Spark Gallery was founded in March 1979 by a group of visionary artists, including Clarke Rickert, John Fudge, Martha Daniels, and George Woodman. Over the years, we've had the privilege of showcasing the work of many talented artists, and we're proud to have played a role in shaping Denver's vibrant arts scene. Today, we're located in our third location, and we continue to be a hub for creative expression and community engagement.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a venue for local artists to exhibit their work, experiment with new ideas, and connect with the community. We believe that art has the power to bring people together, inspire creativity, and foster a sense of community. As an artist-run gallery, our members have the freedom to curate their own exhibitions, experiment with new mediums, and push the boundaries of artistic expression.
Our Services
At Spark Gallery, we offer a range of services to support local artists and the community. Our gallery is available for exhibitions, film and video showings, installations, and performance pieces. We also provide a space for emerging artists and curators to develop their own artistic identity. Additionally, we partner with the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless to fill the walls with art at their Stout St. Clinic, West Side Health Clinic, and Recuperative Care Center.
Our Team
Our team is comprised of talented artists, curators, and art enthusiasts who are dedicated to promoting the arts in Denver. Our officers include Director/President Mike Herburger, Vice Presidents Alicia Bailey and Rhiannon Alpers, Secretary Laurel McMechan, and Treasurer Annalee Schorr. Together, we work tirelessly to ensure that Spark Gallery remains a vibrant and inclusive space for artistic expression.
