YOUR SATISFACTION IS THE FOUNDATION UPON WHICH WE BUILD

Our History

Hanson Memorial High School stands as a pillar of Catholic education in Franklin, Louisiana, with a rich history dating back to 1925. The school's origins can be traced to the generosity of Minnie Hanson Conolly, who wished to honor the memory of her father, Albert Hanson, and her brother, Eddie Hanson, by gifting the city with a school and land. Mrs. Conolly's dedication extended beyond the initial gift; in 1931, she established an endowment fund to ensure the ongoing upkeep and preservation of her beloved school. This commitment to Hanson's future served as a foundation for the growth and development of the institution.

The school continued to receive significant support from dedicated individuals like Mrs. J.C. Blevins, who carried on her aunt's legacy. In the early 1950s, Mrs. Blevins spearheaded the addition of a library and cafeteria building, further enhancing Hanson's educational infrastructure. Furthermore, in 1962, she spearheaded the construction of a gym/science structure, providing the school with the necessary facilities to meet the evolving needs of its student body.

Over time, Hanson embraced change and adapted to the needs of its community. In 1967, the Christian Brothers, who had dedicated four decades to educating boys at Hanson, made the difficult decision to withdraw their faculty. This shift created an opportunity for new developments.

Recognizing the changing educational landscape, St. John Academy and Hanson Memorial High School were consolidated that same year. Hanson welcomed its first junior and senior class, expanding its enrollment to include young women, marking a pivotal moment in the school's history. The Marianites of Holy Cross, who had a longstanding presence at St. John since 1871, seamlessly integrated into the Hanson community, bringing their own rich tradition of Catholic education to the institution.
