At Tacoma Music Lab, we believe that every mind is musical. Our studio is a place where your child can build a solid musical foundation at the piano, while preparing their mind for life in the twenty-first century. We foster discipline, resilience, problem-solving, and self-confidence through musical study. That's why we call it a lab; we encourage optimism, risk-taking, failure, and most importantly, growth.
Our studio is located on the third floor of Tacoma's historic Urban Grace Church (902 Market Street, 98402). We also offer Zoom lessons for students who prefer that option. Our director, Michael Clark, is an active performer, composer, and teacher in the Puget Sound region. He has a thriving studio of over 40 students, young and old, and has worked with Emmy-award winning producers to score documentaries and podcasts.
Michael believes in a collaborative approach to learning, challenging his students in unique and innovative ways to foster an effective, therapeutic, and fun learning process. He has a deep understanding of the benefits of group lessons for young beginners, as it allows students to progress through the early stages of piano education together. This format encourages critical listening and inspires students to work harder both in class and at home.
Services Offered
We offer a variety of services to cater to different needs and preferences. These include:
- Group Lessons for Youngsters: For students aged 10 and below, we offer group lessons that are capped at 4 students and last for one hour each week. These classes are not drop-in classes, but rather a commitment to progress through the early stages of piano education together.
- One-on-One Lessons: After a student has a clear grasp on the fundamentals of piano playing and music theory, they will be moved to a 1:1 time slot with their teacher.
- Zoom Lessons: For students who prefer learning from the comfort of their own homes, we offer Zoom lessons. This option is perfect for those who have scheduling conflicts or prefer a more personalized learning environment.
- Scoring and Composition: Our director, Michael Clark, has experience scoring documentaries and podcasts. If you need original music for your project, we can help with that.
