Our Story

The Wines of the San Juan story began in the most unlikely of places: a roller skating rink in Phoenix, Arizona. There, David Arnold met Marcia Harris, and their shared love for life and adventure would blossom into a lifelong partnership. Their journey, one filled with laughter, challenges, and a whole lot of hard work, spanned decades and continents. From wrangling five children across the country to pursuing diverse passions like smoke jumping, horse training, trout farming, and raising dairy cows, David and Marcia embraced each new venture with gusto.

Their dream of a family vineyard ignited in 1999 when they stumbled upon a desolate patch of desert land along the banks of the San Juan River in Turley, New Mexico. This seemingly barren expanse, defined by rusty barbed wire fences, became the testament to their unwavering entrepreneurial spirit and desire to connect with the land. With no prior experience in winemaking, the Arnolds plunged headfirst into this new world, undeterred by the daunting task ahead. They embraced every lesson, every mistake, every triumph as a vital part of their journey. Day after day, they instilled their love for the land into every row of vines, nurturing the grapes amidst the arid climate and fierce New Mexico sun.
