Transforming Lives, One Smile at a Time.

Our Mission

The Columbus Bicycle Co-op is a community-powered organization dedicated to making cycling accessible and sustainable for everyone in Bartholomew County, Indiana. We achieve this through:

  • Providing affordable access to bicycles and essential gear
  • Offering hands-on learning opportunities in bike mechanics and safety
  • Fostering a vibrant and supportive cycling community

How We Make a Difference

Through our various programs and services, we empower individuals to:

  • Discover the joy of cycling: We loan out bikes and safety gear for free or at highly subsidized rates to individuals and families.
  • Learn essential skills: With the guidance of experienced volunteers, you can develop the confidence to repair, maintain, and customize your own bicycle.
  • Connect with a community: Join us at group rides, social events, and workshops to meet fellow cycling enthusiasts and build lasting connections.

Our Values

At the heart of the Columbus Bicycle Co-op lie several core values that guide our actions:

  • Accessibility: We believe cycling should be attainable for everyone, regardless of income or experience.
  • Sustainability: We promote cycling as a healthy and environmentally friendly transportation and recreation option.
  • Community: We foster a welcoming and supportive environment that encourages learning, collaboration, and shared experiences.
  • Innovation: We constantly explore new ways to improve our services and make cycling even more accessible.

Our History

Inspired by the successful model of the Bloomington Community Bike Project, three passionate cyclists - Loran Bohall, Justin Meier, and Baylee Pruitt - founded the Columbus Bicycle Co-op in 2007. Over the years, with the help of dedicated volunteers and generous supporters, the Co-op has grown into a thriving community hub for all things cycling.

Get Involved

Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just starting out, the Columbus Bicycle Co-op welcomes you with open arms. There are countless ways to get involved, such as:

  • Volunteering: Share your time and expertise in exchange for free access to tools, parts, and bikes.
  • Joining a class: Learn essential bike repair and safety skills from experienced volunteers.
  • Making a donation: Your financial support ensures that we can continue offering our vital services to the community.
