Malaga Springs Winery

Malaga Springs Winery is located along the steep rocky slopes of the Columbia River at the base of the magnificent basalt columns from grapes brought here from Spain to supply the railroad builders in the late 1800's. The winery is one of the smallest in the state, and steps in the care of the grapes as well as the making of the wines are done by us, and by hand. This attention to detail and knowledge of each individual grape plant, along with the handmade philosophy that guides our non-disruptive farming techniques produces wines that are truly unique and reflective of the soils, climate, attitude, and winemaking style that we employ.

Geology of Malaga Springs Winery

Malaga Springs Winery came about as the result of some happy circumstances, historical cataclysms and just plain good luck. The virgin soils, which form the backbone of the winemaking enterprise, were deposited as a result of the glacial Lake Missoula floods near the end of the last ice age. Their unique nature, both mineralogically and how they hold and release water, makes them an ideal location for growing grapes.

Wine Production

Our wines are made in small quantities, with careful attention paid to every step of the process. We hand-pick our grapes, crush them by hand, and carefully tend to them as they ferment and age. This meticulous process allows us to create wines that truly reflect the unique characteristics of our vineyard.

Our Vineyard

Our vineyard is situated on a steep slope overlooking the Columbia River, where the sun shines brightly and the cool river breeze provides a perfect climate for our grapes to grow. We have planted a variety of grapes, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, and Syrah, as well as some lesser-known varieties such as Petite Sirah and Sangiovese. We take great care in tending to our vineyard, using sustainable farming practices to ensure the health and longevity of our grapevines.
