Adventure, Community, and Grace

Accredited by the American Camp Association, Sunset Lake is a non-profit summer camp and retreat center set on 400 acres in the beautiful foothills of Mount Rainier in Washington State. We exist to invite campers and guests to experience the grace of Jesus through inclusive community and outdoor adventures. Owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Sunset Lake is a place where all are welcome to connect with God through his creation. Coming to Sunset Lake should be a little taste of heaven. Sunset Lake runs eight weeks of summer camp and hosts thousands of people from churches, civic groups, schools and youth organizations across the Pacific Northwest region. Our story began in the late 1800s when the Snell family settled the land. They carved out a clearing near a mountain stream and planted an apple orchard. When coal was discovered in the area, they launched a small mining operation. The South Willis Mining Company opened a larger mine near what is now Lake Kepka. But it was George Kepka Sr. who shaped the land into what we know today by damming up the stream, flooding the apple orchard and creating Sunset Lake. A youth camp was held later that year in 1957. The campers slept in tents and took baths in the lake. It was the beginning of more than 60 years of summer camps to be held on these grounds. You Belong at Sunset Lake.
