Ohori's journey began in the early 1970s in Northern Berkeley, a birthplace of the specialty coffee movement. Founder Susan Ohori, trained under the legendary Alfred Peet, a pioneer of the second wave coffee movement. Ohori brought her roasting expertise and vision to Santa Fe in the 1980s, establishing the company as a cornerstone of the local community.
